What is a Long-Term Care Ombudsman? A Long-Term Care Ombudsman seeks to improve the quality of life for residents of long-term care facilities. These facilities include nursing homes and personal care homes, often called assisted living facilities and Board and Care Homes in some areas. What does an Ombudsman do?
How does the Ombudsman investigate? We assess the current situation to find a resolution based on the evidence submitted by both parties. We review and resolve complaints about all sorts of things, such as: billing, customer service, installations/delays, switching suppliers, loss of service and sales. If you want, the ombudsman can help you with any complaints or issues you’re having with the care community. You can feel safe when you contact your ombudsman because unless you give them permission to share your concerns, whatever you say is confidential.
The Ombudsman is not an advocate for you, but will investigate without taking sides in a dispute. Examples where the Ombudsman can help. This is not meant to be an exhaustive list but just to give some idea of issues which may arise.
